Day 5: The Power of Emotional Awareness 🧠💬

Hello, my friend,

Welcome back to The Diabetic Toolbox, where we’re on a mission to end type 2 diabetes, one family at a time.

Today is Day 5 of our Emotional Eating & Diabetes 14-Day Course, and we’re exploring a powerful tool that changed my life:

Emotional Awareness. 🌟

You might be wondering, “What is emotional awareness, and how can it help me manage prediabetes or type 2 diabetes?”

I’m so glad you asked.

As a coach, one of my biggest goals is to help you view your health differently. Because managing diabetes isn’t just about watching your weight or checking your blood sugar, it’s also about understanding what’s driving your choices.

What is Emotional Awareness?

Emotional awareness is your ability to recognize, name, and understand your emotions. When tuned in to your feelings, you can catch those emotional triggers before they drive you to eat when you’re not hungry.

I wish I had learned this sooner.

When I worked in social services, my days were long, chaotic, and emotionally draining. I spent hours helping people through some of the most challenging moments of their lives. When I got home, I didn’t process my emotions; I numbed them with food.

Instead of calling a friend or taking a walk, I collapsed on the couch with a tub of ice cream. Sound familiar?

But once I began practicing emotional awareness with the help of my coach, everything changed. I learned to pause, check in with myself, and ask: What am I feeling right now?

Most days, I put the spoon down and lace up my sneakers instead. 👟

When you build emotional awareness, you will:

  • Gain clarity on your emotional triggers.
  • Respond instead of react to difficult moments.
  • Feel more in control of your choice.s

Your health decisions will become more intentional, and your relationship with food will grow more compassionate.
