Women’s Heart Health and Diabetes: Protecting Your Heart While Lowering Blood Sugar

Listen to the latest episode of The Diabetic Toolbox Podcast: Women’s Heart Health & Diabetes

Hello and welcome, I’m Renee, an emotional eating and diabetes lifestyle coach and yoga teacher, and this is The Diabetic Toolbox, where we are on a mission to end type two diabetes one family at a time, through education, support, and empowerment. If you want to lose weight and lower your blood sugar, without restrictive diets or spending hours a day in the gym, you are in the right place. Take a breath, grab a cup of tea, and let’s take one small step forward together.

If you’ve been diagnosed with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes, your heart health matters more than ever, and yet it’s rarely talked about in a way that truly supports women. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women, and diabetes increases that risk even more significantly in women than in men. Hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can affect blood sugar regulation, cholesterol levels, and inflammation, quietly raising cardiovascular risk.

On top of that, heart disease symptoms in women often look different than the classic chest pain we’ve been taught to expect. Fatigue, shortness of breath, nausea, jaw pain, dizziness, or upper back discomfort are common warning signs that are too often dismissed or overlooked.

The good news is that small, consistent actions can make a powerful difference. Monitoring your blood sugar and blood pressure regularly helps you spot patterns early. Prioritizing whole foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, like salmon, walnuts, chia seeds, and flaxseeds; can support healthy cholesterol and reduce inflammation. Asking your healthcare provider for comprehensive heart-focused labs, including cholesterol ratios and inflammation markers, gives you a clearer picture of your cardiovascular health. These changes are steady, sustainable habits that support both blood sugar balance and long-term heart protection.

I created a free Women’s Heart Health & Diabetes Guide to help change the conversation. This guide walks you through the unique risks women face, how diabetes impacts the heart, and the small, realistic steps you can take to protect your health.

You’ll also receive journal prompts, a practical checklist, and guidance on using whole foods to support both heart health and blood sugar balance. Download the free guide and take the first step toward caring for your heart, one choice at a time.

If you’re tired of managing your blood sugar on your own, guessing what to eat, dealing with crashes, and feeling like your body isn’t responding the way it should, you don’t have to keep doing this alone. The Prediabetes Reset Lab is a private whole-foods and movement coaching program that offers a supportive reset designed to help you lose weight, stabilize your blood sugar, reduce inflammation, and reconnect with food in a way that feels nourishing rather than stressful.

Inside the program, you’ll get clear structure, simple meals, and coaching support so you can feel more energized, see better numbers, and finally trust that what you’re doing is working. Join the Prediabetes Reset Lab and take the first step toward steady energy, clearer numbers, and a body that feels supported again.

All right, my friend, that is all I have for you today. Please share this post with someone you love. Let us know in the comments what one small step you’re taking this week to support your heart health?

Until next time, my friend, take care of yourself and each other,
With Peace & Love,
Renee
