Your Brain on Ultra-Processed Food

Hello, my friend, Renee here from The Diabetic Toolbox, where our mission is to end type 2 diabetes one family at a time through education, support, and empowerment.  Welcome to The Daily Dose, your moment to pause, learn something new, and take one small step toward balance and better health.”

Foods high in sugar, refined oils, and artificial ingredients literally light up your brain’s reward center,  the same area that activates with addictive substances. You’re not weak for craving chips or cookies; your brain has been trained to chase that hit.

Here’s the problem: when you eat those foods often, your dopamine levels crash afterward, leaving you tired, moody, and hungry for more. It becomes a cycle that drains energy and makes diabetes more challenging to manage.

So today’s action step: choose one meal made entirely of real food. Think: protein, fiber, and color. Notice the difference in your mood and energy two hours later,  your body and brain will thank you.
