How to Stay Consistent When Life Feels Chaotic

Listen to the latest episode of The Diabetic Toolbox Podcast: How to Stay Consistent When Life Feels Chaotic

Welcome to The Diabetic Toolbox, where we are on a mission to end Type 2 Diabetes one family at a time through education, support, and empowerment.

Today, we’re discussing a topic that’s close to all of our hearts: staying consistent with your health goals when life feels out of control.

 The Dream vs. The Reality

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to manage our health in a calm, supportive, and stress-free environment?

I picture it like this: waking up at the beach, stepping out for a refreshing 20-minute swim, then sitting down to enjoy a plate of grilled fish and a colorful salad filled with homegrown veggies, drizzled with a light vinaigrette.

And of course, everything is prepared and served by a wonderful staff who anticipate my every need. My whim is their command.

Okay, let’s wake up now,  because that was just a dream.

The reality? We’re managing diabetes in the middle of real life.
With broken hearts, endless responsibilities, aging parents, strong-willed kids, partners who may not always understand, and a brain that sometimes works against us.

If that sounds familiar, friend, you’re not alone.

That’s why today we’re talking about how to anchor yourself in consistency,  even when your world feels upside down.

What Are “Identity Anchors”?

Identity anchors” are the core habits or routines that remind you who you are, no matter what’s happening around you.  They’re the simple, repeatable actions that connect you to your healthiest self, even when everything else feels uncertain. Think of them as your non-negotiables.”  These are the small things you hold onto when chaos hits, not because they’re perfect, but because they’re possible.

You might not be able to do everything, but you can always return to your anchors.

How to Find Your Own Anchors

Start by identifying three things that don’t change, no matter how hectic life gets.
These will look different for everyone, but here are a few examples:

1 Stay Hydrated:  “I always drink my water.”

Water helps regulate blood sugar, reduce cravings, and improve mood.  Even if you skip a workout or grab a quick meal, reaching for that water bottle is an act of consistency.

2️ Prioritize Sleep:  “I protect my rest.”

Your body heals, balances hormones, and stabilizes blood sugar while you sleep.
Try setting a consistent bedtime or powering down screens an hour earlier.
Rest is not a luxury<  it’s medicine.

3️ Morning Protein: “I start my day with fuel, not sugar.”

Beginning your morning with protein (like eggs, Greek yogurt, or a smoothie with protein powder) helps steady your energy and curb cravings throughout the day.

When life gets messy, these anchors remind you that you’re still moving forward,  even if progress feels small.

 Why Anchors Matter

Life will always ebb and flow, sometimes smoothly, sometimes like a storm.

Anchors keep you from drifting too far when the waves hit. They don’t have to be complicated or perfect. What matters most is that you return to them again and again until they become second nature.

Anchors rebuild your confidence.  They remind you: “I am still showing up for myself.” That’s consistency. That’s healing.

 Tools That Keep You Grounded

Consistency is built on having tools that work, even when life gets busy.

That’s exactly why I created the Crave Buster Guide, a simple, three-day sugar reset to help you get back on track without overwhelm.

It takes the guesswork out of what to eat, helping you return to your anchors, nourish your body, calm your cravings, and rebuild trust in yourself.

Your Next Step

Friend, the world doesn’t have to be calm for you to take care of yourself.
Healing happens in the middle of chaos, one small, grounded choice at a time.

So today, I want you to pause and ask yourself:

What are my three anchors?  What are the simple, steady habits that will keep me connected to who I want to be,  even on my hardest days?

Write them down. Name them. Practice them.

And if you need a little help getting started, grab the free Crave Buster Guide, your gentle reset to help you reconnect with your body and your goals.

Until next time, take care of yourself and each other.

With Peace & Love,
Renee
