Hello friend,
Welcome back to The Diabetic Toolbox, where we are on a mission to end type 2 diabetes one family at a time.
I’m your host, Renee Reid, and today we’ve reached Day 7 of the Emotional Eating & Diabetes 14-Day Course. We’re halfway there, and today’s topic is a big one:
Day 7: Self-Care Practices 🧘🏾♀️💆🏽♀️
We often think of self-care as bubble baths, manicures, or the occasional haircut, and those things do matter.
But true self-care goes deeper.
Real self-care is about showing up for your mind, body, and spirit daily.
It’s about managing your mental and emotional health, supporting your physical wellness, and setting boundaries that honor your needs and protect your peace.
Because here’s the truth:
Diabetes, like any chronic illness, can easily take over your life if you let it.
Why Self-Care Matters
Good self-care will help you to:
- Stay emotionally balanced.
- Build resilience for the hard days.
- Make consistent, empowered health decisions.
Without self-care, you risk:
- Burnout and frustration.
- Unhealthy coping (like emotional eating).
- Losing confidence in your ability to manage your health.
🌿 3 Self-Care Strategies to Try Today:
1. Schedule a “non-negotiable” moment for yourself today.
This could be a 15-minute walk, journaling time, or sitting silently with a cup of tea.
2. Set a soft boundary.
Say “no” to something that drains you. It’s not selfish, it’s sacred.
3. Do a body scan check-in.
Take 3–5 minutes to breathe and notice where you’re holding tension. Stretch or move gently as needed.
You don’t need to do them all. Choose what works for you, or find your version of self-care. The only rule? It must nourish you, not deplete you.
