Hello, my friend,
Welcome back to The Diabetic Toolbox, where we are on a mission to end type 2 diabetes, one family at a time.
Today is Day 6 of our Emotional Eating & Diabetes 14-Day Course, and we’re talking about something that touches all of us, every single day:
Stress Management Strategies 💨
Let’s be real, stress isn’t going anywhere. As Shakespeare said, we’ll deal with some form of stress until we “escape this mortal coil.” 😅
But if you’re living with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes, unmanaged stress can do more than just ruin your day; it can:
- Spike your blood sugar.
- Trigger emotional eating.
- Disrupt your sleep, focus, and recovery.
Before you roll your eyes and say, “Not another thing I have to manage!”, take a breath. I’ve got some simple, feel-good strategies to bring more calm and joy into your life.
🧘🏾♀️ Simple Ways to Manage Stress:
1. Move your body.
Even a 10-minute walk can clear your head and reset your nervous system.
2. Focus on your breath.
Try this easy Box Breathing Exercise (great for calming the body fast):
- Inhale for four counts.
- Hold for four counts.
- Exhale for four counts.
- Hold for four counts.
Repeat for 1 to 2 minutes.
3. Journal your thoughts.
Don’t keep everything bottled up. Write it down. Let it out. Clarity comes through reflection.
These three tools can help you:
- Lower your stress response.
- Gain emotional control.
- Make better choices for your health.
Remember, your stress strategy must be in place before the chaos hits.
Don’t wait until you’re running late, your kid forgets their lunch, or your boss is upset. Prepare now, and you’ll feel steadier when life throws curveballs.
And no-grabbing food, wine, or anything that disrupts your blood sugar doesn’t count as a strategy 😉
